FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

• What is your boarding facility like?

We have a large boarding facility located on 30 acres on a country hillside in DeSoto, Texas. Our dogs view grass and trees instead of concrete parking lots.

• What boarding accommodations do you offer?

The boarding area for dogs includes spacious indoor/outdoor runs with access to air-conditioning or heat. The entire "outdoor" area is covered by our large roof to protect your pet from the weather. The boarding area for small dogs & cats is located indoors in a quieter portion of the facility where a little more attention and care is given. Soft, comfortable "Mutt Mat" beds are available for all pets.

• Will my dog be "cooped-up" in a small cage the whole time?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Our indoor/outdoor boarding area offers large spacious runs. All runs are 4 feet wide and either 11 or 16 feet long! This allows for "room to stretch." However, if you wish, additional exercise and supervised play may be provided for a small additional charge.   Smaller dogs, "camped out" in our bunk house receive 3 walks daily at no additional charge.

• What are your hours of operation?

Willow Run Kennels & Animal Clinic is open Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are also open on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We are closed to the public on Sunday.

• Where are you located?

We are located in DeSoto, TX, just 15 minutes South of Dallas with easy access off I-35E. If you would like to contact us, please click here.

• Is there a Veterinarian on staff?

Yes. As a matter of fact, we are owned and operated by a Veterinarian. Dr. Harry E. Moore has owned the facility since 2001 and provides loving care and service to all of our patients and boarders alike. Along with the rest of our compassionate staff, we try to make each pet's visit as comfortable as possible. In the event of an emergency, medical care is available; or your own veterinarian may be contacted if you wish.

• If I already have a veterinarian, can I see you too?

Willow Run Kennels & Animal Clinic works closely with other veterinarians in the area. We can call to get vaccination updates on your pet before boarding and communicate closely if a medical condition occurs while in our care.

• What vaccinations are required for boarding?

Dogs are required to be current on Rabies(according to the community where your pet resides, and should have been vaccinated within the last year for DHPPV (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvo Virus). We also require your pet be current within 6 months on Bordetella. Bordetella is the vaccination for "Kennel Cough" or "Canine Cough." It is an air-borne bacteria that can be a problem in areas where dogs are housed together. Vaccination of your dog with this important vaccine, prior to boarding, helps eliminate or reduce the signs of this irritating disease syndrome.  We also require that your dog be vaccinated for Canine Influenza.  This relatively new virus has symptoms similar to Bordetella, however it can be much more severe.  This virus is be spread rapidly before the infected dog is shows any clinical signs of the disease.

Cats are required to be current on Rabies and should have received FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calcivirus, and Panleukopenia)within the last year. We also require our feline guests be current (within 6 months) on their bordetella vaccine.
Ask your veterinarian or call us if you have any questions regarding the status of your pet's vaccinations.

• Should I bring my pet's food while boarding?

If your pet is on a special diet, or has a difficult time changing diets, then you may bring their own. Otherwise, we will provide your pet with a high quality maintenance dog food. After years of kennel trials, we have selected Purina EN, a prescription diet proven to be gentle on the gastro-intestinal system of your dog. We have found this food to be highly palatable and has the fewest GI tolerance problems.

• If I have more than one dog, can they stay together?

Absolutely. We encourage it. Boarding two "friends" together helps to alleviate the stress of being separated. We also discount each dog's boarding rate by $1.00/night while sharing a kennel.
